Independent Contractor (1099)

Position Summary
RJs LTL Transportation Services is seeking experienced, safety-focused 1099 independent contract drivers to support our growing freight network. Contractors will be responsible for the safe, timely, and professional pickup and delivery of freight in accordance with company standards and customer expectations.
Responsibilities

Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle to transport freight per assigned routes and schedules

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in compliance with DOT regulations

Load, secure, and unload freight as needed, ensuring proper handling of goods

Maintain accurate delivery documentation, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and electronic logs

Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding delays, delivery issues, or route changes
-
Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, warehouse staff, and terminal personnel

Comply with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules

Maintain a clean, safe, and properly functioning vehicle at all times
Requirements

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A or CDL-B, depending on freight type)

Minimum 3-year clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) — no major violations, DUIs, or excessive points

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with ongoing random testing per DOT/FMCSA guidelines

Must pass a background check, including criminal history and driving record review

Current DOT medical certification (or ability to obtain one)

Own or have access to a qualifying commercial vehicle (if operating as an owner-operator)

Valid liability insurance and required operating authority (as applicable)

Ability to lift, load, and secure freight as needed

Strong communication and time-management skills

Reliable smartphone/device for dispatch communication and electronic logging
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in LTL, freight, or courier services

Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and dispatch software

Knowledge of regional routes and delivery areas
-
Experience with cross-docking, palletized freight, or time-sensitive deliveries
